Tai Yang (太阳)

The Sun · Yang Fire · nobility

What the star is

Tai Yang (太阳) is Yang Fire, and its transformed quality is nobility. It governs reputation, standing and giving. Like the sun shining on everything without asking for anything back, its nature is to give first and receive later — which is why Tai Yang's reputation so often runs ahead of its material reward.

More than any other star, Tai Yang is read by brightness and by time of birth. Born by day, with the Sun in a bright palace such as Si or Wu, the light is at full strength. Born at night or with the Sun dim, the warmth is still there but the return on it shrinks, and life tends to involve more effort for the same result.

Temperament

Warm, open and generous, with a sense of fairness and a habit of taking care of people and taking things on. In a group Tai Yang tends to be visible without trying. Energy runs high, and idleness does not suit it.

The tendency to watch is giving more than is sustainable, and a directness that can come across as impatience.

Career and wealth

The fit is public-facing work with reach or a public-service element: management, government, education, media, diplomacy and public relations. Tai Yang governs honour rather than riches — wealth tends to follow position and reputation rather than lead them.

When it meets Tai Yin in patterns such as "Sun and Moon both bright" (日月并明), the chances of reputation and wealth arriving together are higher.

Relationships

Traditionally Tai Yang stands for the father and eldest son in a man's chart and for the image of the husband in a woman's. A bright Sun in a woman's chart often points to a career-minded partner. For anyone, the pattern in a relationship is to be the giver and the carer; the work is keeping care from turning into arranging the other person's life.

Frequently asked questions

Why does it matter whether Tai Yang is in a day or night birth?

The Sun star is read by brightness. A daytime birth with Tai Yang in a bright palace (for example Si or Wu) gives the star its full strength; a night birth or a dim placement keeps its warmth but reduces the return on effort. The same star can read very differently on two charts for this reason alone.

Is Tai Yang a wealth star?

Not primarily. Tai Yang is transformed into nobility, so it governs honour, reputation and standing. Wealth tends to follow from those. The wealth-oriented counterpart is Tai Yin, the Moon star.
