What it is

Zheng Guan (正官) is the element controlling the Day Master at opposite polarity — Xin metal to a Jia wood Day Master. Control across polarities is control with regard, like a good official governing well. It stands for rules, reputation, position and responsibility, and is the most respectable of the Ten Gods in the classical hierarchy.

Older methods treat Officer as the first mark of standing: a clear Zheng Guan — supported by Wealth, protected by Resource, not broken by Shang Guan — reads as upright and distinguished. Too much of it, or a muddled mix, becomes pressure rather than standing, so the favourable-or-not question still has to be asked of the whole chart.
